I'm struggling with the reinstallation of my network drivers for over three days now already. (For the whole story see http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/19269864/19470244.aspx#19470244)

It seems like I've finally got the Intel drivers working - however, the WMP54G I had installed prior to the now (hopefully) working Intel driver isn't shown in the device manager. There's no icon for Wireless LAN connections in the task bar, either. A further attempt to reinstall the drivers, however, aborts the process with the comment that drivers would be installed. Thus, I reckon that the driver is there, but not working at all.

So how can I get rid of that driver and try another reinstall?

My spec:

Dell Dimension 9200

Windows Vista Ultimate x64 (Don't tell me there are no x64 drivers, PLEASE!)

Ok, seems like I dit it.

It really seems like the standard LinkSys drivers on the download website don't support any x64-systems at all. According to the readme-files, the driver hasn't been updated since 2004! That's unacceptable, I think - just as much as a decent re-direct in this forum doesn't work.

Anyway, although some really nice junior contributor on the forums seem to have written some x64-drivers himself, I actually didn't know how to install them without an .exe-file. :-p

Instead I did some more research on Google and learned that the v4.0 and v4.1 chips of the WMP54G were produced by RaLink and that those guys actually provide decent drivers! It was at that point that I remembered my "Unknown Devices" software mentioning RaLink, too, RT2500 for v4.0 and RT2561 for v4.1. And well, turned out that I've got a v4.1 and that their driver works like a charm. They also provide a WLAN surveillance software that allows some further tweaking. My suggestion: Cisco should outsource their driver development department, too.
