Can anyone advise me on remote streaming video files from the NMH410.

I want to be able to stream video from my NMH410 media hub to my laptop  when I travel.

There is a 50MB file size cap on remote streaming because apparently  Cisco wish to "maintain its identity as a home media server".

50MB might just about satisfy a 192/256kbps concerto movement but is not relevant to video  streaming.

Let me make it clear that this a very nice product, with a friendly GUI and it is  brilliant, at home, with the Kiss1600.

However, this distinction between private and  remote streaming was circumspectly talked around, but not actually stated, in the advertisements or  the manual. I will be sorry to RMA it for an A110 if I cannot find an alternative way to stream  remotely.

A few questions to clarify the issue:
(1) DDNS is mediated via CISCOMEDIAHUB.COM (TZO.COM). How does this access tunnel through my router and bypass DMZ/port forwarding settings?

(2) My router has its own DDNS/VPN functionality so can the NMH410 allowan  alternative DDNS service?

(3) Will it allow VPN or DDNS/port forwarding methods? Can I put it in the DMZ and port forward to it because I read that some of the NMH's ports are dynamic (!!)

Many thanks,

John

We will be removing the 50MB limit in a future patch.

Thanks Tony.  When I saw your name crop up, I knew that enlightment would soon follow.

That news about the cap is good news indeed. Always a pleassure to deal with a professional.

Any general timelines on that patch? I know there is a revision 2.17.14 migrating in so I assume the cap fix will be in 2.17.15 ?

Are we allowed to discuss DDNS  / VPN / port forwarding methods here?

Thanks,

John

We are on the 3 series now for firmware numbers.

Don't hold my feet to the fire, but we are looking at around end of April for the release (+ 2 weeks).

Lots of great things coming in this release. As we go through testing, the feature set will lock down, so might be able to speak more to that.

Sounds like interesting and creative times indeed.  Might be useful to allow upnp remotely so that we are not restricted to flash based browsers.
