So, do you guys think there is any hope that linksys will ever fix the firmware on this router? I have to buy some more VPN capable routers and quite honestly I'm debating if I should just find a way to return the ones I already have and buy them all of them from some other company. I'm kind of losing my faith in linksys on this one. I should have never started upgrading from the old ones, people wanted N though. Turns out the N on these things have worse performance than the G on the old ones. And VPN, I don't even know why they bothered with that since it doesn't work. All the interface bugs are pretty annoying as well. FTP going out every couple of hours is fun too.. I would have been happy to fill out a ticket system in proven reproducible bugs. But I'm not going to go through the support idiocy just to 'maybe' get something to the engineers on the other side of them. I'm sort of starting to give up because I need something that works as advertised and I needed it months ago when I originally got these.

Well the FTP issue has been very frustrating for me to say the least. I figured I would place another call to support to get an update. After 1 hour 20 minutes on hold, call backs, and transfers to Level 2 support I was disconnected. I gave them 3 hours to call me back. (they had 2 contact numbers for me.) I called back for another 30 minute wait only to have the tech start the flow chart process of troubleshooting. I informed her I had already been through all the suggested remedies such as lower the MTU, play around with QOS, and IPS. I said "listen this is odvously a known issue since there are 6500+ hits when you google "wrvs4400n ftp" which many link to this forum. She told me they dont know of this issue. I asked her if she read the Linksys forums to which she responded yes. I then said I guess you are not allowed to confirm this issue. She told me that the programmers may be working on an updated firmware, but she knew nothing about it, (but was very quick to have me start to play with settings.)

I would feel much better if they would say we know there are issues with the wrvs4400n. We are working on an updated firmware to remedy the issues.

I dont have the high pitch wine issue and I am not using vpn so my only beef is with FTP.

This thing isn cheep. I have a feeling it wont be too long before there is a class action lawsuit.

I'm starting to agree. I went reading reviews at newegg and amazon and it seems like there is a bit of an uproar going on. I couldn't help but notice that you weren't the only one to start talking about class action. Lots of people are talking about it in their reviews.

I just cant believe Linksys refuses to acknowledge the issue. That's what frustrates me the most. I would gladly accept the answer "we are aware of the issue and our technicians are working to resolve the issue." But when I call in knowing this issue is widespread and have the tech start trying to "tweak" the settings to fix it really infuriates me, or that tell me there is no record of these routers experiencing this issue. My $49 WRT54g works like a champ.

Then there's the DHCP over wireless bug - very annoying. And there's the VPN dropping and failing to reconnect until you reboot bug. Honestly, these bugs have all been thoroughly discussed on this forum, so it's quite clear that Linksys knows about them. And I have even sent a couple emails to their tech support people politely inquiring about when a new firmware version might be expected - the silence of their response has been deafening.

You know whats even more fun, as I'm sitting here enjoying the barrage of wireless drops from the access point on this thing. Aside from my constant reboot every time I need to use FTP, the wireless N thats slower than my old G, or the blatent problems with ipsec/openswan which forces me to use OpenVPN since this thing can't handle that either.

I setup a passive sniffer with wlan-ng and a prism chipset to see if I saw anything. According to just passively sniffing it looks like the access point is physically crashing / spawning new access points. The beacon and all traffic from it physically disappears. I never get a log alert about that but whatever... Anyways basically after every crash I see a whole new access point shows up to the sniffer with the same MAC and ESSID somehow under a different cell. I have tried everything from flashing and reflashing upgrading and downgrading to get it to stop crashing. And this is happening on every WRVS4400N that I own. If anything, it seems like its getting worse over time. Like the board inside is constantly overheating and slowly destroying the wireless chipset.

I mean seriously... These things are just flat out defective.

On one of the other related forums, tech Doc Large is currently evaluating one of these with interesting results.

There are so many different threads about this router's issue (and probably a lot that the moderators erased, too), that it's hard to keep up

I have wasted thousands of dollars in consulting time (if it was to be billed) troubleshooting these issues, and being told that they dont exist.

It's time to replace them, I think, with a nice apology!

I really wish they'd just release a firmware to fix this thing. It would be so awesome if it both worked and was reliable. Somebody I know thought it was really cool when I showed it to them and when they asked if they should go buy one I had to tell them no. Not yet at least.

I was browsing linksysinfo.org and found an interesting post.

If you guys look the linksys germany site (according to http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/sh...d.php?p=322629) there is indeed a hardware version 1.1 option.

Looks like any firmware they release for version 1.1 should work with 1.0. That is if they can release firmware that works.

I am so tired of this routers problems.

I think we should start voicing our problems on planetfeedback.com. This is the worst customer care I have ever experienced. I rank Linksys below car dealers now. You cant get any lower!
