I purchased the Linksys N Ultra Range Plus - WRT160N and my internet provider is Verizon Dsl. When i connect modem to computer it works perfectly fine but when modem to router to computer it doesn't give me a working connection even though when i went through the setup disc it said that the router had connected and it shows the internet light on.. i have gone to the 192.168.1.1 and configured to my dsl settings through the PPOE but still no luck.. anyone had this issue? anyone know why this is wrong.

Hi ,
Follow the steps to access internet through router.

1. connect the router to the computer.
    a) Launch an Internet browser.
b) On the Address bar, type 192.168.1.1, then hit Enter.
c) A login screen will appear.
d) Type "admin" for the password and leave the username blank or empty then hit Enter.

2. Now click on the Setup tab and here change the Local IP Address
    to 192.168.2.1 and save settings.

3.now connect the modem to the router & router to ur computer.

After that remove the power from the router and the cable modem, and then after 10 sec replug the power 1st into the modem and then into the Linksys router.

Change internet connection back to automatic configuration DHCP, or perform hard reset for 1 minute, and then change router's local IP address to 192.168.2.1 as posted

Too fancy, always start with layer 1, the wire. Check to see that the RJ-45 connectors are correctly pinned out and fully connected. Then do a router reset setting it back to defaults.

I called customer service and did not get help becuase I had to wait for a more experienced tech. I went online and this fixed it.

Hey Jike,

if your PC actually has a name you should put in there.
For password I used the one from the router (WRT160N) set-up.

If your problem is/was the same as descript by Bri08, it maytake a couple of minutes after things straighten out after performing Badboy´s fix.
I don't have a modem, but a router. So I had to get 2 routers to work, but it goes the same way as Badboy describes....

First it looked like no joy, but after about 3 min everything started to work!!

Thanx Badboy!!

I have tried the PC name of the laptop I use now, and the PC name of the desktop I set the router up with originally (no longer part of my network). I have also tried the name of my network and my various passwords, in addition to the ‘admin’ password. I still get not authorized when I try to log into the router settings page (http://192.168.1.1/). Anybody got any answers…?

Kudos!
