I have a WRT54G wireless router and it had been working properly until recently. It randomly disconnects and both wireless and wired connections lose their internet connectivity. As a temporary solution to this problem I use my old Linksys Wired router and it connects fine. This solution exemplifies that the problem likely lies with the Wireless router and not the ISP. The other solution is to reset the wireless router and reset all default settings, and it will work fine until losing connectivity again at random. The firmware is updated to the most current as posted on the Linksys Website. I'm not sure if its some sort of defect on the hardware. I have not made any further modifications to any settings that I had not set when it was working previously. Thanks in advance for any solutions!

I'm running into a similar problem. I contacted my ISP, RCN in New York City, and their answer is to lease me a router for $4.95/month plus a $25 installation charge. The router that they provide is made by Linksys, which makes me believe that there should be a Linksys solution. We've got two desktops hardwired into the router and usually one or two laptops contacted wireless. The same problem as the previous post - at random times we will lose connectivity with the internet. The present workaround is to power cycle the modem and router. Any suggestions on a fix from Linksys would be greatly appreciated.

I have to throw my hat in the ring as well. I came to this forum looking for an answer to my issue but it appears others have it too. I recently switched from a wired router BEFSR41 to a wireless WRT54GS. Occasionally with the wired unit, I would have to pull the power to reset it when unable to connect...maybe once a month. With the WRT54GS, I have to push the reset button more than once a day. One click on the reset and we're off and running again but what's the deal? I shouldn't have to do this each and every day, multiple times a day,...pretty much every time I return to the computer to do anything...should I? My main machine is wired...I haven't even tried to use the wireless capabilites yet, well, except for the Wii...and that works...unless of course, the reset button needs to be pushed...again! any insight is greatly appreciated Bill

This is not the ISP problem for sure.... and not your computer problem either. It is definitely the router problem. First unit I bought (about 2 years ago) had this problem and the problem only grew worse with time, so I bought another one of a higher version (version8) but this problem occurred again with this new unit. I was devastated!!! I coudln't fix this problem with my first unit and I couldn't fix it with my second unit either!! when I contacted the support team, it was like asking a clueless child for a help, they could not do anything but to lead me thru power recycle steps, and firmware update steps! I mean WHAT THE FREAK? this works AFTER your router DROPS your CONNECTION!! tell me something that KEEPS ME CONNECTED AND ON THE INTERNET!! ---OK this is how I know it's the router that's messing up the connection-- (2005)I had WRT54g back in houston (I live in austin and in houston lives my parents) and it didnt work very well so I replaced it with (in2005) Belkins router(which i got for free at fry's after rebate) and it worked perfectly.(in2006) After some months I came up to Austin and used the old WRT54 and it didnt work very well again so I bought a new WRT54(v8) (in2007)which functions only every 3 minutes or so now(2008). Last month I went down to houston and stayed there for a month and had to use the internet intensively all the time, and experienced NO DISCONNECTION on the Belkins. But again back in Austin I could not stay connected on WRT54G, and called my internet provider and figured out that my internet service was normally functioning( took us about an hour). I called linksys support about 2 days ago and they AGAIN led me thru the firware and power cycle and blah blah and of course it worked RIGHT AFTER that and for a FEW hours. For the past 1 1/2 days I have my computer connected directly to the modem and not to my router just to check and make sure it is not the cable problem. it turns out that i actually have a very great internet service!! so see? it is definitely the WRT54G issue, and obviously there is not solution available anywhere near.
