in this case, the exe utility refered to is the executable firmware upgrader that Linksys released for the 1.03.2 firmware. Sort of like the TFTP program with the binary firmware built in. Not the TFTP program alone . With the latest 1.03.7 firmware, linksys does not seem to have an executable version, just the binary. You can upload the binary using the firmware upgrade page in the existing firmware, but that fails sometimes (did for me). Best to use the TFTP program with the binary download. You can get the TFTP from linksysinfo.org at If your router can still be pinged, this should work.

Crushs, I have gone thru the exact problem, like yourself... I experienced some issues with my 350n and was advised to upgrade the firmware of my 350n, by Their Infamous Techsupport. I talked to 4 Techs and NONE helped me resolved the issue!!! One even tried to walk me thru the firmware upgrade but failed at 84%. They all claimed "your device is defective" and told me to call CS with the Case # for a replacement. When I called CS, they told me since I bought my device 3 months ago but do not have the receipt, I'm screwed!!! "We cannot replace your WRT350n since you do not have a receipt." So ta hell do I do with this paper-weight??? Fortunately, after 2 hours of troubleshooting, I've finally figured it out! Here are the steps... 2. Download the new firmware (version 1.03.7) at Linksys download site 3. Reset your router by pushing and holding the reset button in the rear for 30sec 4. Configure a static IP address (192.168.1.50 with Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0) on YOUR PC 5. Connect a network cable from your PC to your router 6. Test that your PC is talking to the router by openning a DOS window and type "ping 192.168.1.1" (without the paranthesis) and you should get 3 replies. 7. Double click on the tftp.exe 8. Type in the IP Address for the Server: 192.168.1.1 9. Password is "password" (WITHOUT the paranthesis) 10. For the BIN file, click on the square-button and browse to the BIN file that you've downloaded from the LinkSys Site (WRT350N_1.03.7_US_code.bin) 11. Click on Upgrade 12. After the upgrade is successful, perform the reset, again. IMPORTANT!!!! PUSH AND HOLD THE RESET BUTTON FOR 30sec then let go. 13. POWER light should be blinking during boot up then stay SOLID 14. Now, just open Internet Explorer and type in 192.168.1.1 and process with your configuration!! GOODLUCK!!!

j3tbl8ck, this information was excellent! I thought I'd wrecked my router - "update are failed" - after attempting the 1.0.3.7 update to fix a storage link issue, and got the blinking power light issue with no apparent connectivity. The router was ping-able, but I didn't appear to be able to do much else. I followed your step-by-step instructions and got my WRT350N router back up in running in minutes! Kudos for having and sharing great information when the Linksys tech support folks weren't able to help me.

FYI -- Linksys Tech support tried to tell me that Due to the fact that i was upgrading the Firmware by myself (as apposed to getting a Linksys engineer doing it) i had void my warranty on my brand new 350n.. Thanks again for this post -- its how i resolved my problem.. would have been nice if the Linksys tech support person could have told me about this solution.. but she had never heard of this issue before.. IN FACT she was not in the United States, --- another cost savings due to Off-Shoring....

I followed the directions and had already set in a router password. Rather then using the password as "password" in step 9 of the instructions, I put in the router password that I had set. The upgrade went successfully and the power light is no longer blinking. My problem now is that I can no longer get into the router setup as the password has changed. It is not the password that I set, it is not the "password' password and I have tried various combinations of it. Any ideas as to what the password might be or how to reset it?
