I upgraded to DSL through Verizon more than a year ago.
They sent me a Westell model 2200 modem.
I purchased a Linksys BEFW11S4 to be the router for my 2 desktop pc's and 1 laptop.
Everything worked fine. I even set up remote desktop for my wifes pc so she could connect from work. Recently I lost DSL completely.
Up untill this point I was connecting PPPoE on the Linksys and its address was 192.168.1.1

I called tech support and they started messing with my settings and swiched me to "Obtain an IP automatically". Then they transfered me to a Linksys tech to told me to download a quickconnect program from Linksys to set up my network.

So I did all that and my network can connect to the internet but I cannot configure any port forwarding at all. So remote desktop is now usless.
My Linksys is set to "Obtain an IP automatically" but its address is 192.168.2.1 and the Westell modem now uses 192.168.1.1
I had never been into the Westell's setting before and it seems like the Westell modem is trying to be the router for my network.
I would like to be able to remote desktop my systems here at home and online game too but I need help with the proper settings in botht hte Linksys and the Westell.
Kudos!

^ you may need to call Verizon's technical support and have them forward the ports for remote desktop. it seems that your modem settings were changed from bridged mode to PPPOE. call your ISP and have them set it back to bridged mode.

Thanks for your suggestion but calling Verison tech support is like jamming an ice pick in my ear (useless and more likely to hurt than help).

After changing every setting I could think of in the Westell modem I tried enableing the public LAN. Which as far as I could tell is supposed to allow a LAN behind the modem. And it worked. I forwarded the ports needed to the one address (the address of my linksys) that the Westell can see. Then forward the same ports in the Linksys to the computer that needs them.

I searched through the Linksys settings and there is no such thing as public LAN so this must be some stupid thing that Westell thought up.

I did try to get tech support from Westell but they say that they cannot offer tech support for this modem because Verizon provides it. And Verizon treates everyone like they have never seen a computer before and they refuse to help anyone change anything in the settings because they only guarantee that you can access the internet. If you want to do anything else you must pay them more money.

Again thanks for your suggestion and I hope this string helps out anyone else with this sort of problem.
