Hey!

I have a BEFW11S4 version 4 wireless router connected to 2 PCs via cables and one laptop via wireless. The internet randomly disconnects very often, and will start working again after I unplug and replug the router back in. I'd understand better if it were just on the laptop (wireless connection), but it does it on the two other PCs as well. Suggestions, por favor!

Try changing the LAN IP of the router to 192.168.5.1 to prevent router and modem IP conflicts. By the way, who is the service provider?

Hi Kreksie. Have you tried connecting the pc directly to the modem (without the router) just to see that it is not a problem with the modem or with the Internet Service provider?

My service provider is Roadrunner. I have tried directly connecting the modem to a single PC and it works fine. I'll try the LAN IP switch and see what happens.

Tell us what happens okay? Observe the connection for awhile though. :smileywink:

When I changed the LAN IP, all my shared folders were no longer working. I guess it worked fine except for that, but that isn't acceptable for me.

It seems a lot of times if I go to do something on one PC or another, I will come back to the other PC to see connections (id est MSN, Bittorrent) will have been interrupted. Sometimes I might be watching a video or something on PC 1 that is hosted on PC 2, and I go to PC 2 and see this kind of thing [disconnection], and then discover the internet is not working on either machine. It's odd, since the video continues to play and the shared folders are apparently accessible.

So, to summarize, I guess I'm asking:
Do I have to rerun the Network Setup Wizard or something to get shared folders to still be accessible on a new LAN IP?

P.S. The connection reset/messed-up as I was typing this, so I don't think it's fully related to the other PC(s). Do you think a firmware update could fix these problems?

You can try running the network wizard again. But changing the IP of the router should not have affected the file sharing anyway. Try upgrading the router's firmware. What version is currently loaded on the router?

It was 1.50, and I upgraded. It didn't make much of a difference. I disabled UPnP, and everything seems to be working fine now without disconnects. I'm confused as to how this could be the source of the problem, but apparently it was.

I also have a BEFW11S4 version 2 and my wireless laptops kept dropping connection on the internet but the hardwired pc did not have a problem. I contacted Linksys several times to resolve the problem. I was told to change the channel, MTU, yadiyadiyada... I even did the firmware upgrade, same problem. Wasted over 2 days and nothing. I got so tired of unplugging the router, changing the channel, chatting with Linksys, resetting, and most of all, losing work productivity. I finally disabled WEP and have not had a problem since. So I compromised wireless security for connectivity.   : - |
