WRT54G is not resolving the DNS

I have a RCA cable modem and a linksys router. I started having this problem saying "Cannot find page"; When I connect directly to the modem, I have no issues. But through the router, it shows "Page not found" . If I do ipconfig /all, I can see the ip address of my pc which is 129.2.15.100 and the ip address of the the router  which is 129.2.15.1. I can ping them but I cannot ping the DNS Servers which I see in ipconfig . Since i can connect to internet when I go directly through the modem, Time warner says it is the problem of the router. But, I am not so sure. I am not sure whether buying another router will help. There may be some other problems. In the routers web based utility, everything seems fine besides I cannot connect to the internrt

 

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are you getting the ip address 129.2.15.1 from the modem or the router...?

Have you set static ip to the router...? Are you using any static ip for the router..?

 

Connect the computer to the router on Ethernet port and check the ip address you are getting from the router..? If you are able to go online from the modem and not from the router then,you need to reconfigure the router.Connect the modem to the router on the Internet port and the computer to the router on Ethernet port.Reset the router for 45 seconds,power cycle the router and reconfigure it from the scratch.

Hi, I am getting the ip address 129.2.15.1 from the router. I know the common practice is 192.168.1.1 but somehow my wife's vpn does not like 192.168. So, I changed it to 129.2.15.1. I am using DHCP and when connected to the router I get my pcs ip as 129.2.15.100.

 

I had these for 2/3 years without any problem. Now, Timewarner wants me to get a new router but I think that is not correct. I will try to reconfigure the router again.

 

Router assigns ip address etc correctly but cannot resolve the DNS servers. Thanks. If you think of something else, please let me know.

So, I can connect to internet if conneced directly to the modem but through the router I still can't.

I think buying a new router will not help. The above I got after resetting to factory defaults.

Any help is appreciated.

Try putting the universal DNS 208.67.222.222 and  208.67.220.220 on the router.Login into the setup page of the router and under setup tab,assign the Static DNS 1 and Static DNS 2 and click on save settings...

Hi,

 

Adding those universal DNS ips to static ones made my internet connection possible again.

 

Thanks a lot.

 

Was that Time Warner Cable's issue or Linksys' ? Time Warner seems to think that it is linksys' problem.

I'm having a similar problem.  Using the univeral DNS servers does not resolve my problem.
