Hello! I just got a PS3 and I'd ike to use its wifi to connect to the internet so I'm looking for a wireless modem to pair with my cable modem, since I'm not currently wireless in any way. My problem, is that my computer is a few years old, and as all PC's tend to do, has its own personality . . . I have Windows XP Pro, and when I try to update from Service Pack 1 to 2 or 3, it makes my PC slow down a lot, so it's never really taken.

If I wanted to get a Linksys WRT120N wireless router, would it still work with my Windows XP Pro Service Pack 1 system? The Linksys info on the offical web pages weren't very clear.

If anyone can lend a hand for a wifi newbie, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!!

Eric

The WRT120N will work fine with XP/SP1 while your desktop is connected by ethernet cable to it.

There were some wireless updates in SP2 and SP3, but once again there is no effect if your desktop is wired to the router.

There is no issue with the operating system and the router. The job of the Router is to provide the internet connection,so it will provide the Internet Connection to all the operating system..So you can go for WRT120N.

So there's no software that comes with the WRT120N that will have a compatability problem? I assume there's some since I have to set up my password/etc.

The software does not install on the computer; it only is used to configure the settings for the router.

In all actuality, the software is not even needed since all configuration of the router can be done from within the router's own web based utility.

If I wanted to get a WRT160N, would I still have no problems?

No, you wouldn't have any problems with the WRT160N either.  The router's settings can be configured with either the included CDROM or manually via the router's utility.

Basically, all routers will have the same capability to work with your system regardless of XP version.
