Hi,

I have a WRT54GC v2.0, that was working perfectly till yesterday.

I cannot access the router no more, either thru cable nor wireless, all lights are flashing.

I thought it would be the power source but i have measured it with my fluke multimeter and there is 3.5v, it is probably working well.

Does anyone have this problem?

Regards and thanks in advance.

Rodrigo

I have you tried giving it a hard reset???

Hold the reset button on the back for 30 seconds and then unplug the power cable for 1 minute.

Did that fix the problem, Can you now connect to the routers web interface through a hard wire connection???

GoodLuck

Hi! If you have a fluke - add your mind to it :smileywink: I mean, look at the output voltage under at least 1A load (6,2 Ohm 2 W resistor would be good enough), and you will find a problem.

Try to reset the router to factory defaults and see if it corrects your problem...

Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now see if you can access your router to re-configure it...

As you have already resetted your router and still all the lights on your Router is flashing. I think it might be the problem with the router. Then also you try to reset your router again. Press and hold the reset button for 60 seconds...Every after 10seconds unplug the Power from the Router, Replug it back..and go one....do this for 60 seconds......After 60 seconds Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 60 seconds and re-connect the power cable...

Once you replug the power to the router now check the light status.

Hi!

First of all, sorry for bad english. Before opening adapter cover I should warn you - if you are not a qualified technician, it may be very dangerous, electric mains voltage may cause death or serios damage. And, for sure, it voids all and any warranty.

The cover, as with most such adapters, is attached via glue to prevent accidental opening. To open it, put it horizontally on the hard surface, take a small or mid-sized hammer and begin to strike slightly along the gap between the base and top cover. After some strikes, try to pull, swing and sway the top cover. If you see the glue became weaker on one of the sides, continue to strike slightly along the crack, and pull the cover, if nothing happens - carefully add some force to the strikes. After some time and tryes, you will be able to remove the top cover (or ruin the power adaptor completely :smileyhappy: As for me, the third adaptor I open by this way have not any visible damage at all. The trick is that the glue used there (or plastics, glued by solvent) is fragile, and small bend of the plastic case at the glued place, then you strike it, cause the glue to break.

Good luck! You will need it :smileyhappy:

So, if you succeed at opening the adapter and really find the dead capacitor in low voltage section there (usually it clearly visible - the top cover is blown, or bend outside by inside gas pressure, in worst cases you can see some electrolytyc fluid around - it defenitely should be cleared out), i should warn you about replacement capavitor:

- it may be -30% to +100% in capacity

- it may be the same or higher voltage (if it does fit in place)

- it shoud be high-temperature graded, +105C

- it should be designed for pulse and high frequency load (Low ESR series)

if you have not any such capacitor at the nearest electronics parts shop, it may be taken from old and dead computer motherboard or power supply.

My WRT54CG bought in early 2007 had exactly the same problem: Leds flickering sequentially, all green but the power LED which was orange. Thanks to your invaluble input I narrowed the problem to the power supply which would cost me around 30 USD to replace. Then I opened the power supply, following your advice, and through visual inspection I found a 100uF, 10V faulty eletrolytical capacitor. It was swollen at the top. It cost me a few cents to buy a replacement. On the issue of faulty electrolytical capacitors please refer to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague

I am glad to hear that :smileyhappy: Thanks for reply and for link to the root cause of the problem due to the bad chemicals!
