K, For everyone still having Vista problems. Here is how I got my Vista machine working. First off, throw away the lousy instruction manual. It doesn't even burn good in the fire place let alone get your problems resolved. Now the fun stuff! In a nutshell here is what we are going to do. Set up the Print Server via its web utility. Set up Vista to print via TCP / IP. No stupid wizard needed. **Before you begin** You need to know the TCP / IP Addresses that your router is handing out. You need to know the next TCP / IP Number that will be handed out. You can get all of this information off of your router via the Web interface. You will need to know your Wireless security settings (I had problems I'll explain later) Step 1. Hook up the Print Server via the provided network cable. Step 2. Plug in and power on the print server (You do not need the printer hooked up at this time!). Step 3. **NOTE** My Print Server took about 3-4 minutes to pick up a TCP / IP Address so if yours is slow as well don't panic. Give it a little time. After a few minutes you should now be able to connect to the Print Server via the web interface (If you still don't know the number, open up the settings on your router and go to Status > Local Network > and click on the DHCP Clients Table. Here it will list everything connected to your router.) Step 4. Connect to the Print Server using the above TCP / IP Address. **Hint** The default user name is left blank. The default password is admin. I highly reccommend you change this right away! **Another Side Note** Unfortunately with this Print Server you must save the changes on every page before moving on. It's a real pain waiting a million times but save yourself the headache and press save before clicking the next link. Step 5. Download the most up to date Firmware from the Linksys site. Its a quick download. Once dowloaded extract the files. Step 6. In the print server web interface click on Status. Click the upgrade button for firmware and select the folder that you extracted to. Step 7. Once the upgrade is complete and the print server reboots power it off then back on by removing the power cable. Step 8.Once the print server is on and you can connect again (Mine took a few excruciating minutes). Click on protocol. Click on the Use the following IP Address radio buttion. Now enter the IP that you want the printer to be. 192.168.2.x. Now enter the Subnet Mask that you have set up for your local network. Leave the Gateway section at 0.0.0.0 . Step 9. Now set up the appropriate wireless security by click on the Wireless section. This is based on your wireless security settings. For some reason that I am unsure of at this point I could not get the print server to connect. Turned off all security and it worked. Once I figure out why I will post a response here for everyone. You may not have this problem. Either way the only way to figure out if the print server is connected wireless is to power off, remove the network cable and power on. Wait 5 minutes and try to connect. Linksys in their infinite powers of reasoning decided to make only one network connection work at a time instead of both so you could verify the router is connected via the Web interface. Step 10. (Almost done) Once the Print Server is connected via Wireless connection we can now add the printer (The following works for Vista, XP, and 2000 Verified). Open printer and faxes. Click on add new printer. The Wizard should appear. Click next at the first screen. Select the local printer attached to this computer radio button. Remove the checkmark from automatically detect. Click next. Click on the create a new port radio button. Hit the drop down arrow and select TCP / IP. Another wizard will pop up. Click next. Now enter in the IP Address of the print server. 192.168.2.x . The port name will autofill. DELETE THIS!!! Now enter in something simple like the printer model ( I used MX310 since that was my printer model). Now click next. The additional port information window comes up. Select the Custom radio button then click settings. Click on the LPR Radio button. Under the LPR Settings enter in the queue name. This must matach the port name. This is the reason we renamed the port to something simple (So my queue name was MX310). Click OK, Next and Finish. The driver window will now come up. Pop in your driver disk and there you go. You should be able to print to your printer without any problems. Mine is working flawlessly with my Canon MX310. I have 3 wired computers and 3 laptops all printing without any problems. Hope this helps some of you out!
