Ok, here's the deal: I've tried to connect the usb adapter with an Acer Aspire 7736ZG, installed with Windows 7 64bit edition. Well, I *can't*.And before re-posting the solutions thas has been given on the other threads, please believe me, I've done it all. To be more precise:

- I started the CD installation and when prompted, I've connected the USB stick. Well, the stick couldn't be detected, and the installation couldn't continue.

- Then, I used the Windows7 drivers and managed to install the device (device manager, sees the device normally). But, the CD still couldn't continue the installation of extra software.

- Ok, no linksys software - no big deal. I would use the Windosw wireless management program. NO! The card seems not be present, and the only wireless connections I get, is by the onboard 802.11n card of the laptop (don't ask why I bought an extra 802.11n card).

- Nothing happens by disabling the onboard 802.11n card and trying all over again.

- If I go to the connection and sharing center and select "change setting of adapter", well, my expensive and cisco-super-duper card, isn't there, and I can only find the Atheros ARB93 Wireless card and the local (wired) adapter.

So, to sum up, 64bit driver seems to be installed correctly on the device manager (as proposed on other threads) but the adapter is not present on the system. How cool is that?

Any help?

You need to Update the Drivers for your Wireless Adapter...Download the Drivers from here.

After downloading the drivers you need to unzip the file...After you unzip the file you should un-install the adapter drivers/software from Programs menu...Leave the adapter connected to the PC and reboot your computer...Once the computer is rebooted you should see a message "Found new Hardware"...Select the option Install it from a specific location and click Next, then select Include this location in Search and browse to the place where you have unzipped all the files and select the Driver folder and click O.k...Then click Next and it should install the adapter drivers...

NOTE : This installation doesn't install the software(Linksys Monitor)...

Once the Adapter is installed, Click on the Start button >>> Control Panel >>> Network and Sharing Center and try to connect the network.

Did anyone try that? Is it working now for a Win7 64bit computer? I came back to my winXP 32bit now for the non-working win7 64bit driver of WUSB600N......

Greetings,

I tried it any nothings works (Win 7 Ultima 64bit). The adapter SEEMS to install correctly, but does not work at all. No IP-Address, nothing.

Worse, it completely destabilizes the system: Try, for instance, to change settings of the adapter. It makes the system hang.

Try installing .net Framework 3.5 and the systems hangs when installing.

Try shutting down the system and it hangs.

Remove the stick - and all works again.

Fresh and new system with only basic software installation so far (gfx-card and chipset drivers)

Worse, I bought the 120N Router, too, which is buggy also. I will return both products.

G.

@castor:

Sorry my friend, but you need to read my full message before posting an answer. That's because:

- I already downloaded the latest drivers from the site (the one that it seems to be working ok, on the device manager - The CD drivers cannot be installed on Win7 64bit).

- I won't comment on the unzip instructions, I work for an OEM company and I install software and drivers for more than 250 PCs every year.

- If you had read my original post, you would had seen that the  driver is installed "correctly" but is not shown anywhere on the Network and Sharing Center.

Anyway, I'm happy that another user ( abeschorner) has the same problem. I just hope newer drivers and patches will be presented soon, because imho, it is a driver bug and nothing more. Any linksys staff could provide any beta or information about our problems?

I, too, am encountering this problem.

I have Windows 7 64-bit with a v. 2 WUSB600N

  • I downloaded the Windows 7 drivers and unzipped them.
  • I uninstalled all adapters and drivers.
  • I rebooted, and Windows 7 recognized the device and asked for drivers.
  • I pointed the instaler to the downloaded driver folder and the driver installed successfully
  • The Linksys WUSB600N now shows up in the Devices folder
  • It does not, however show up in the Network and Sharing folder
  • Another "ghost" LAN device is listed in the hardware profile as "USB WLAN Device," when I tried using the same drivers that I downloaded for this device, but Win7 doesn't recognize them as compatible
  • So in short, the drivers for the WUSB600N were installed, the device is recognized in the hardware profile, but it is not recognized in the Network and Sharing profile.

I had the same problem with a WUSB600N v2 - running Windows 7 64-bit, the driver appeared to install OK but did not show up as a network adapter in Network and Sharing. After much frustration, I now have it working. The solution is to download and install the Ralink drivers (having already installed the Linksys drivers).

1) Firstly make sure you have manually installed the Linksys drivers via Device Manager, then unplug the WUSB600N.

2) Download the "USB (RT2870 /RT2770 /RT307X /RT2070 /RT3572)" driver, which is the first item in the list on this page: http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php - the Ralink site was extremely slow for me but it did eventually download.

3) Run the installer, selecting "Driver only" when prompted.

4) Let the installation complete, then insert your WUSB600N. It should install and show up as a new wireless connection.

I can't vouch for the reliability of the driver as I have literally only had it running for about half an hour, but so far it seems stable, and I'm getting full 802.11n speeds. This driver has been available from Ralink since September, so Linksys really have no excuse for not having a working driver on their site by now.

I too have had a nightmare getting this adapter to work with windows 7 64bit.  After downloading the win 64 driver and then reinstalling I have now got it to work, but when the PC awakes after sleep it doesnt recognize the adaptor. Have to unplug it and plug in again, it then recognises the adapter but have to manually connect to the network. Also speed is slow and signal strength is poor. I just dont think that the Linksys driver works properly.

I do not know what can cause the WUSB600N ver. 2 to not be seen in Windows 7 but somehow my Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit detected and installed the drivers automatically.  It then detected my wireless network correctly.

If you check the other posts, you should find another forum meember who has "tweaked" the Ralin RT2870 drivers so that they will install for both WUSB600N versions. (NOTE:  it's not me.)
