Hi there, I'm looking at buying a WMP600N adaptor but haven't been able to find clear information if it suits my needs or not. After my last linksys card (WMP54G) disaster, im being careful (ping spikes, useless to me -it's sat in my drawer since purchase ) My 3 requirements are:# - That it's supported by Windows 7 x64 out of the box - ie no driver download necessary. I'm the sort of person who rebuilds his PC a lot and I hate fumbling for driver CDs to get my network connection working after a reinstall.
- It's supported by OSX Snow Leopard - it seems that it is after browsing forums, so that gets a tick.
- and thirdly and most importantly - NO PING SPIKES. I game online a lot, I had a WMP54G a while back which spiked the ping every minute, freezing the game - was completely useless to me and a waste of money

Can someone with experience with these cards tell me if this model is going to suit me? Cheers! Nick

Well these adapter is compatible with Windows 7 64 Bit OS. But to make these adapter work with windows 7 you need to download the drivers or install the drivers on your computer using the Setup disk, If in-case the setup disk doesn't work then you need to download the drivers for these adapter and install the adapter on your computer. Well i don't think that these adapter will work with OSX Snow Leopard. May be you can try Ralink website and check if they have the drivers for these adapter to work with OSX. As its an Dual band adapter it will perfectly fine with the Gamin without any Spikes.

I bought one of these yesterday and attempted to install it on Win7 64 bit (Ultimate). I was not successful. I spent some time on line with the Linksys tech and he confirmed their driver is not ready on the 64 bit side, even though it is up on the website. The problem I have is after installing the drivers, then powering off and installing the adapter, then powering up again, the installation software cannot find the adapter. I've tried downloading and installing the 64 bit adapter software and doing a manual install, but I have the same difficultly in that the card doesn't respond...it just remains disabled. I currently am running a WMP54G which works marginally...I have ping spikes and sometime lockups when running World of Warcraft, other applications are usable. I had a Cisco Aironet A/B/G card in the machine running Vista 64 bit with no difficulty, but the drivers would not work in Win7. I've looked on the Windows 7 Hardware compatibility list for a card and so far everything I have tried has been on the list, but has failed to work in 64 bit Windows 7. I honestly don't understand why the manufacturers haven't got these drivers out....Windows 7 was in RTM release to manufacturing) for a very long period. The only thing I can think of is that they did not concentrate on the 64 bit version, thinking most people would go to 32 bit.
