Hello All,
I think I have discovered a pretty serious (to me) problem in the latest BEFSX41 firmware (v 1.52.16.4).
Background first: the router is connected directly to a cable modem, and gets it's IP via DHCP. My ISP uses DNS servers which harvest unknown DNS names, and directs them to a server which will offer suggested sites. The biggest problem with this is that it can return a public IP when looking up a name for a server in my VPN, and causes all my VPN traffic to get routed to public IP addresses.
The solution to this is to configure the router to use DNS servers (some provided by my ISP) which do not exhibit this behavior. This worked great by setting those servers on the setup page in the BEFSX v1.52.10.
The problem occurred when I upgraded the firmware (hoping it would fix more problems than it solved) to version 1.52.16. The new version now ignores any configured DNS settings, and always uses the DHCP assigned DNS servers.
So, my question is two parts:
- Where can I find a (trustable) download of the 1.52.10 firmware, so that I can get my VPN working again? Or is there a better firmware version I should be using that would have this problem corrected?
- What is the best way to ensure Linksys is aware of the issue, so that I can get fixed in the next patch?
Thank you!

You can get the firmware for the linksys product on the webste www.linksys.com/support. You will not get the firmware 1.50.10 for the router BEFSX41 as the new firmware version 1.52.16 released already. However you can try the third party firmware to check if the issue get fixed or not.But installing the third party firmware will void the warranty of the router and the router may corrupt if not updating the firmware properly.

Depending on what features are most critical to you, newer router firmware is definitely not always better! Here's one place to try for your BEFSX41: http://befsx41.flogator.org/doku.php?id=stock Anyone got any firmware for the BEFSR41 v4.3 that allows the traffic logging feature to actually outpu traffic data? Cheers!

Excellent, that is just what I was looking for. Thank you!
Any suggestions on how file a bug report against the newer firmware, or at least make Linksys aware of the problem?

BTW - here's the link for the DNS Benchmark utility - http://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm Message Edited by ps56k on 01-02-2010 10:13 AM
