I have a WCG200 (version 1) with a laptop connected wirelessly. I've been experiencing internet dropouts with varying frequency; however, the signal strength has remained consistently strong. It particularly seems to happen when I download larger files (patches and demos); the download rate continually decreases and eventually just ceases altogether.

EDIT: This is a combo cable modem/router unit, and there is no firmware upgrade to download.

I'm really not sure what to do.

Any ideas?

I feel your pain. My WCG200 dies as soon as I open a Bit Torrent client. Hope someone can solve this problem.

I was reading a post in a different forum about 3 months ago that told of a setting tweak that solved this problem, but I can't find that forum anymore. I should have bookmarked it, but I didn't think I would have this problem with my new Linksys.

I have had the same problem too!!  If you have wcg200 v1 you should have the the following firmware on your modem: 1.1.2.9.4-11044

If you have firmware version: 1.1.3.5.10-0520

This means Comcast updated the firmware on your wcg200 and it seems that this version is not compatible version 1 WCG200.  See this news group for info.  I haven't posted my solution yet because I just got it fixed today and want to be sure my resets have gone away.

http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,16144018?hilite=wcg200+comcast  (I am user medussa67)

After 4 months of calling Comcast and Linksys I finally found a supervisor at Comcast who had a tech rollback the firmware on my modem.  I am crossing my fingers but so far so good. Linksys will not help with this problem.  They may offer you a new modem and if you can deal with the hassle then go for it.  If Comcast did change the firmware be persistent and have them roll it back.

dballestas, I'm glad to hear that you got satisfaction from Comcast. I'm having the same problem. Now that a couple of days have passed, please update us: did going back to the old firmware solve the problem?

Also, in case I get a tech who doesn't know anything about this, what exactly would you recommend I say when I call?

Who wrote this firmware upgrade anyway? Comcast or Linksys?

Finally, what does all of this say about the WCG200's firewall? Does it concern anyone else that someone can push through a firmware upgrade--that is, change the programming of the access point to my computers? Seems like the linksys firewall isn't very robust. What's to keep someone in the know from putting out an intentionally harmful firmware upgrade?

Thanks,
Steve

The WCG200-CC models are from comcast, and run on comcast firmware (or maybe just comcast modified).  Apart from the difference in the UIs, the comcast firwmare has other features.  (i'm not sure about this, but i've heard that they can limit the number of clients that can connect through it)

I have exact same problem.  When I download large files with my laptop after about 30 seconds the modem disconnects.  My version is v2.  Any fixes for this yet?

I have the same problem on my wireless-g cable gateway (wcg200) v1, running firmware version: 1.1.2.9.4-1104.  I also experiance the same loss of connectivity when downloading large files or using xbox live through the wired connection.  When I experiance the problem, all of the LED lights on the front of the gateway flash and it appears as the modem will reset it'self?  This is very frustrating when in the middle of an online game!  I checked and I am running the latest firmware version, not sure what else to do?

Well I have been researching this for some time today and I have not found a easy/good solution.  I don't think there is one until Linksys provides an update.  I think I am going to buy a router and just shut off the wireless on the wcg200 which is what most others are doing.
