Unplug your router from your network and plug an ethernet cable dirrectly into it from your PC/Laptop. Turn the router on. wait for all the lights to come up. Press and hold down the reset button untill the green ACT light goes out, then release the reset button. Wait for all the lights to come back up. Now point your browser to 192.168.1.245 and login as described above. If that doesn't work turn the power off to the unit, wait a few seconds and turn it back on, then try to connect to the device as decribed above. Regards Fred

Can you get the network to function without any security going? ie a basic setup without anything else configured. If yes, try WPA and not WEP as it is more secure. You may have issues with XP/Vista clients as they store connection profiles for wireless. They need to be deleted. Regards Fred

So, I had a wap54g working with my old netgear router. I replaced the netgear with a linksys, and have spent the last four hours or so working on getting the wap54g working with the new router. I've tried various wiring configurations for the setup process, but the only one that seemed to work reliably was to connect the PC directly, as you suggest.
The real difficulty was remembering that the default user is not "admin" as stated in the manual, but is blank, as you say. I had forgotten that from the first time I got it working, which was a few months back. So, along the way, i've reset the device and started over many, many times, trying to remember what the default user id and password would be for the web page. All along the way, the setup utility could always talk to the wap54g, but the web page security would deny me access.
Now I think I have all the correct information. That is, that the user id is "" and the password is "admin". Sadly, after the last reset, neither the setup utility or my browser can connect to the device any more. It's not pingable, nothing. All the lights are on, so I know I have a good physical connection. I think I just hit reset one too many times, and fried the wap54g.
So, what are my options at this point? Is it possible that the wap is repairable? Is there some kind of super-reset that will really get it working again? Any ideas? Thanks, Don

Fred, I found various posts by you in different places, and you seem like a very helpful guy. So, thanks for that. Unfortunately, everything I've tried has the same result. No luck. The link light even blinks when I ping it, but nothing works.
It's sad, really. My dad had an old International Harvester Tractor, and it was well-made. Lasted over thirty years just chugging away. Sold it to a friend, and he kept using it after that. Amana refrigerators. I bought one used and it worked like a champ for 13 years. Folks that work for companies like that, they can go home, look their kids straight in the eye, and tell them, "I did good work today." You see so much stuff these days, though, that's really just junk. What do they tell their kids? "I did good work today"? That would be be sadder still, to lie to your own kids like that. Pride of workmanship, that's what I'm talking about.
So, is there a competitor to Cisco/Linksys out there that makes a bridge such as the WAP54G, where the employees go home at night and still tell their kids, "I did good work today"? Where they say "I made a bunch of APs, and the connections are solid as a rock, and it works out of the box each and every time"? I'm talking about a company where I can go spend my eighty bucks in U.S. currency, and it's not a roll of the dice as to whether the thing will still be working in three months, if it even works out of the box?

Well AP's doesn't really work automatically "as a Bridge ; as an AP : as a Repeater " when got out of the box...we have to MANUALLY configure it --- copy some MAC ADDRESSES to make it communicate with the other devices... LinksysGuy
