yes i know im using older hardware but its what i have available lol. Hoping some one can help me out. its been bugging me like hell.

been playing with it for a few days and i cant figure it out
its driving me mad lol hope someone can help.

heres the setup.

WRT54g Router is setup in point A with wireless connection on.
Laptop computer at point C wireless connection, which is on the opposite side of the house. so this means it gets very low signal.

looks like this A ------------------------------------------ C

Now i was trying to put WAP54g at point B so that it can get signal from point A and boost it so that the signal can reach point C

so it looks like this A ---------------- B ------------------- C least that's what im trying to accomplish.

the wap54g only has for AP modes and i tried em all and cant get it to work. im missing a step i just dont know where lol

Access point
AP Client
Wireless Repeater (this looked like the obvious choice but it didnt work or i did it wrong)
Wireless Bridge

can someone help out?

thanks

Kudos!

If the WAP54G is a V2.x or 3.x then you should upgrade to firmware versin 3.04.03 first.

Place the WAP54G at about the midway point from the WRT54G and your client.

Connect to the WAP54G as per this.

Log into the WAP54G from a "WIRED" client.

Set the Default Gateway to the IP of your WRT54G, then set the IP to something that suites your network. Save and continue.

Place the WAP54G in AP Client mode and do a site survey. When the new dialogue box appears select your WRT54G. Make a note of the MAC address.

Now select Repeater mode and enter the MAC address you noted.

Save and continue.

The WAP54G may or may not have asked for the securtity key, just ensure the WAP54G is on the same channel as the WRT54G and the security matched what you entered into the WRT54G.

Now disconnect your wired client.

Connect your wireless cllient to the WAP54G and set your internet connection.

If you are using XP/Vista and have previously connected to the WAP54G via wirewless you may have to remove the stored wireless profile and reconnect to the WAP54G before the client will connect properly.

Regards

Fred

Network Configuration should not be bridged.

With the Network Mode set to bridge what you are telling the AP is the connect (bridge) the wireless and LAN ports together.

Leave it at the default.

What is the version no of the WAP54G ?

Keep the Network Mode as "Mixed" on the router and the channel to 11-2.46GHz.Keep all the Wireless Settings of the Access Point same as of the Wireless Router.Configure the WAP54G in Repeater mode.

If you refer my previous post, you can setup your AP in a repeater mode and Router and AP will communicate wirelessly and it will send the wireless signal to your laptop. If you want to connect the AP hardwired to the router then, configure the AP in AP Mode.
